ChatGPT in Swedish

ChatGPT is an AI service from the American company OpenAI. ChatGPT answers questions and writes and improves text. The service is free at chatgpt.com and comes as an app for phone and computer. Write in Swedish and ChatGPT answers in Swedish.

ChatGPT lives in four places. The guide starts in the browser and ends in the API.

Get started

What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is a chat with a language model, an AI that learned language from huge amounts of text. What you write to ChatGPT is called a prompt.

ChatGPT has three modes at the time of writing, according to OpenAI's documentation. Chat is for questions and conversation. ChatGPT Work takes on larger tasks and hands back a finished result, such as a report or a spreadsheet. Codex is for programming and has its own part in this guide.

Who is ChatGPT for?

ChatGPT is for anyone who wants help with text, questions and planning, such as a school assignment or an email. You need no prior knowledge.

OpenAI's Terms of Use for Europe require you to be at least 13, or the minimum age that applies in your country. If you are under 18, you need permission from a parent or legal guardian, according to the same terms.

How do you use ChatGPT? Get started step by step

Five steps are enough to get started.

1. Go to chatgpt.com

Type chatgpt.com in the address bar of your browser. You can try it without an account, but several features require you to be signed in.

2. Create a free account

Sign up with email or with your Google, Microsoft or Apple account. With an account you get a history of your chats and more features.

3. Set the language to Swedish

ChatGPT picks its language from your browser. To change it yourself, click your profile picture and choose Settings, General and Language. You must be signed in to change the language.

4. Write your first question

Start with something you already know. Then you see where ChatGPT is good and where the answer falls short. Try, for example, "Explain compound interest as if I were 15."

5. Keep the conversation going

The first answer is rarely the last. Say what should change, for example "Make this shorter", "Give me three different approaches" or "Ask me questions before you continue". ChatGPT remembers everything in the same chat, as long as the text fits in the context window, the amount of text ChatGPT can keep in mind at once.

Is there a ChatGPT app?

At the time of writing, ChatGPT comes as an app for iPhone and Android and as a desktop app for Mac, Windows and Linux, according to OpenAI's documentation and download page. Download the apps through chatgpt.com/download, so you do not have to search among copies in the app store.

The mobile app suits voice conversations, images and quick questions. The desktop app brings Chat, ChatGPT Work and Codex together and can read and change files in a folder you choose.

Everyday use

How do you write a good question for ChatGPT?

A good question says what you want, who it is for, which facts apply and what the answer should look like. "Write an email about the meeting" gets you a generic email. The prompt below gets you an email you can send straight away.

OpenAI gives the same advice. Write as if you were explaining the task to a helpful colleague, and include the details that change the answer. More ready-made prompts are in the prompt guide.

Write a short email to my team saying Friday's meeting moves to Monday at 10. Friendly tone, five sentences at most, end by asking whether the time works.

  • Task and recipient
  • Facts
  • Tone and format
  • How it should end
A good prompt says what, to whom, with which facts and in which format.

What can ChatGPT do?

At the time of writing, the free version has many of the features below, often with limits, according to OpenAI's pricing page.

Read files

Upload documents, presentations, spreadsheets, PDF files, images or data exports. Then ask ChatGPT to summarise, compare, find mistakes or turn the content into a new file.

Search the web

When the question is about something current, ChatGPT can search the web and compare sources. Open the sources before you trust them.

Create images

Describe the image you want, or upload an image and say what should change. Also say what should stay, so ChatGPT leaves the rest of the image alone.

Talk with voice

In the apps you can talk instead of typing. You can interrupt in the middle of an answer and change direction.

Projects

A project keeps chats, files and instructions that belong together, such as a course or a house move. The instructions apply in all of the project's chats.

Memory

ChatGPT can remember what you have told it, so you do not have to repeat yourself. You control memory under Settings and Personalization.

Plugins and custom GPTs

Plugins connect ChatGPT to other services, such as Google Drive or SharePoint, and can contain ready-made workflows. Custom GPTs are your own versions of ChatGPT with fixed instructions. OpenAI is now moving custom GPTs to plugins, according to OpenAI's migration guide.

ChatGPT Work

ChatGPT Work can, for example, compare quotes and put together a basis for a decision. The free version has ChatGPT Work with lower limits than the paid plans, according to OpenAI's pricing page.

Which models are in ChatGPT, and which should you choose?

Which models you get depends on your plan. Plus and Pro get a larger model in Chat that can think longer, and Free and Go get a smaller and faster model, according to OpenAI's Help Center and pricing page. The model menu in ChatGPT shows which model you have.

ChatGPT Work and Codex offer several models in different sizes, according to OpenAI's models page. According to the same page, the largest model suits the most demanding tasks, and the smallest and most efficient one suits focused tasks that repeat. In between are a balanced model and a fast one.

In Chat you usually do not pick a model. You pick how long ChatGPT should think. With Plus and Pro the slider goes from a mode that answers fast to modes that think longer, according to OpenAI's Help Center. With Free and Go you choose Think instead when the question is hard, according to the same page. OpenAI's models page advises starting with the default level and raising it when the task needs planning or careful analysis.

Price and safety

Is ChatGPT free, and what does ChatGPT Plus cost?

ChatGPT is free. The free version is enough for everyday text chats, according to OpenAI's pricing page. Files, images, voice and the other tools have lower limits in the free version than in the paid plans, according to the same page.

The paid plans give higher limits, models that think longer and more of Codex and ChatGPT Work, according to OpenAI's pricing page. Go is the cheapest paid plan and may include ads, according to the same page.

Prices change, so check them at chatgpt.com/pricing before you pay. Here is what the plans cost a month at the time of writing, according to OpenAI's ChatGPT Work and Codex pricing page:

  • Free: 0 dollars.
  • Go: 8 dollars.
  • Plus: 20 dollars.
  • Pro: from 100 dollars, in tiers of 100, 200 and 500 dollars.
  • Business: 20 dollars per user billed annually and 25 dollars billed monthly, for at least two users.
  • Enterprise and Edu: priced by OpenAI's sales team.

Is ChatGPT safe? How to protect your data

ChatGPT stores your chats with OpenAI. In Free, Go, Plus and Pro, OpenAI can use the chats to train its models unless you turn that off, according to OpenAI's pricing page. Turn it off under Settings, Data controls and Improve the model for everyone. The choice applies to your whole account, on the web and on mobile, and voice mode has a setting of its own, according to OpenAI's Help Center.

A temporary chat does not appear in your history and creates no new memories. OpenAI does not train on it while it stays temporary. OpenAI may still keep a copy for up to 30 days for safety reasons, according to OpenAI's Help Center. You start one by choosing Temporary in a new chat.

A thumbs up or down on an answer counts as feedback. Then OpenAI may use the whole conversation for training, even if you have turned training off, the Help Center says. In Business, Enterprise and Edu, OpenAI does not train on the content by default, according to the same source.

Never type passwords, personal ID numbers, patient data, customer data or trade secrets. Data about other people is protected by GDPR. At work, your employer's rules for AI services apply. Read more in the guide Is AI safe?.

Never type this to an AI

  • Passwords
  • Personal ID numbers
  • Card numbers
  • Patient data
  • Trade secrets
What you type is stored by the service. Replace names and numbers with made-up ones when you want help with a real case.

Official ChatGPT or a copy?

OpenAI's ChatGPT is at chatgpt.com, which OpenAI's own documentation links to. Swedish is a setting there, not a separate website. So assume that a site calling itself "ChatGPT Svenska" or "free ChatGPT in Swedish" at another address is not OpenAI's service. The site may still use the name and the logo.

A copy is a risk to your data. Everything you type goes to whoever owns the site, and your choices in OpenAI's data controls do not apply there.

At the time of writing, the App Store lists the developer of ChatGPT as OpenAI OpCo, LLC and Google Play as OpenAI, according to the stores' pages. Warning signs of a copy:

  • The address is something other than chatgpt.com.
  • The site wants card details or payment before you have tried it.
  • You cannot sign in with your usual ChatGPT account, or the sign-in looks different from chatgpt.com.
  • The app has a developer other than OpenAI OpCo, LLC or OpenAI.

Can ChatGPT be wrong?

ChatGPT can be wrong, and a wrong answer sounds just as sure as a right one. ChatGPT can make up sources, figures, quotes and legal references. The error is called hallucination or confabulation. OpenAI itself advises you to check the result against the sources, especially names, numbers and details taken from images.

Ask for sources and open them. Check anything you will use for something important, such as health, law, money and text others will read.

Comparison

ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini?

ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini are AI services of the same kind. You write in plain language and get an answer. ChatGPT comes from OpenAI, Claude from Anthropic and Gemini from Google. The guides to Claude and Gemini are laid out the same way as this one.

The differences show mostly in how the answers sound and which services they connect to. Ask the same question in two of them and compare.
